Yolanda R. Maxwell

Yolanda R. Maxwell, 53, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Deaconess Hospital Midtown. She was born August 3, 1964 to the late Anna Bessie Sears and Eddie Duff, Sr.
She was raised in Evansville and attended Oak Hill Elementary School, Lincoln Elementary and Central High School. She later went to work at the Executive Inn Hotel, Caretenders, and HealthSouth of Evansville. Because of her love for children, Yolanda went into foster care working for the Villages for many years. As well, she also owned a daycare.
Yolanda was a very strong mother, wife, sister, caretaker, and friend. She was a virtuous and faithful Black woman who was married to Melvin Maxwell for 34 years. She never met a stranger and was a help to many people that entered her life. Throughout her life, she received numerous plaques and awards from the Black Women’s Task Force and other organizations in the community. Yolanda loved to cook and bake. She enjoyed catering and sharing her food with friends and family. Yolanda’s favorite color was red and she loved keeping her hair and nails done. Her favorite gospel artist was James Cleveland.
Yolanda professed her hope in Christ at an early age and became a faithful member of Mt. Calvary MB Church of Evansville. She attended worship services and was an active member of the Mother’s Board. She was also the treasurer of Mt Calvary and treasurer of the Southern Baptist Convention in 2005. She later joined Eastview Baptist Church and participated in many church activities until her health prohibited her from doing so.
In addition to her parents, Yolanda was preceded in death by godfather: Bennie Bryant, Sr.; god brother: Bennie Rico Bryant.
Yolanda is survived by her husband: Melvin Maxwell, Sr.; Sons: Harold Young, Jr., DaWayne, Carl, Jeffery, Eddie, James, Melvin Jr., Deonte, Eugene, Antoin, Mikeal, DeJulon; daughters: Latoya, Latasha, Autumn, Yolanda, Jennice, Mariah; goddaughter: Trinetta Lipson; sister: Yvette Sears, Val Bryant, Latonya Outlaw, Vera Cabell, Debra Harris, Barbara Bryant; brother Mark Duff, Bennie Bryant, Jr.; 2 half-brothers: Eddie Franklin, Floyd Duff; 47 grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law; 1 brother-in-law; mother-in-law: LaFerne Maxwell; and a host of nieces and nephews. Services are 11:00 a.m. Friday June 1, 2018 at Eastview Baptist Church with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. R. Mason Brothers Memorial Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
