Willie James Samuel, 55, gained his heavenly wings on Jan. 2, 2019. He was born in Chicago, Ill on February 26, 1963 to Willie J. Samuel Sr. and Mattie Slaughter Samuel. Twenty-three years ago, he moved to Madisonville. He served his country honorably as a member of the United States Army.
Willie was a compassionate Registered Nurse for over 20 years. Everywhere he went he met former patients who thanked him for his care. He utilized his nursing skills while working at Baptist Health Hospital in Madisonville, Jennie Stuart Hospital in Hopkinsville, St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, and most recently, Green River Correctional Complex in Central City, KY.
Willie loved being around his family and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was affectionately called “Papaw” by his grandchildren. All of them had him wrapped around their fingers. Papaw loved and cherished each of them and would just about give them anything they asked him for.
Willie was a dedicated member of Zion Temple AME Zion Church under the leadership of Rev. Deborah Slaton. He was Chairman of the Stewards and a member of the Usher Board.
Willie was preceded in death by his father: Willie J. Samuel, Sr.; brother: Stacy Samuel; sister: Shunta Samuel Seals; grandson: Liam Galbraith.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife: Jamesetta Shelton Samuel; daughters: Brittney Galbraith (James), Tierra Samuel; sons: Jaquez Samuel (Ashley), Leo Scisney, Christopher Scisney (Jakilyn) all of Madisonville; mother : Mattie Slaughter Samuel of Princeton, KY; brothers: Alexis Samuel, Ventura Samuel (Holly) both of Princeton, KY; 6 loving grandchildren: DeJean Harvey, Makinzy & Miya Scisney, Jace & Jaxton Samuel and James Scisney.
