William Elijah McFarland was the sixth of nine children born to James Cooksey MacFarland and Elizabeth L. Tillerson McFarland in Henderson, KY. While a teenager, William moved to St. Louis with his family as his father and brother James, were employed by Chrysler Corp. There he attended high school and worked for various employers. While in St. Louis, he was blessed with the birth of two daughters, Tausha and Rhonda.
After returning to Henderson, William was employed by Eaton Axle Corporation which is now known as the Dana Corporation. William confessed his faith in Christ joining Norris Chapel Baptist Church in Henderson, KY. He knew & loved the Lord. He was a man who enjoyed fishing like his mother and watching sports with his friends. William especially enjoyed spending time with his children, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He loved to play cards with friends and barbecue for the family.
William was known to be an extremely clean and orderly person. He didn’t like anything out of place in his home or his room at Redbanks Nursing Home where he lived in recent years. He was a resilient man who survived Covid19 and other health challenges.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his wife: Carlene Cables-McFarland; siblings: Lucy F. McFarland, James A. McFarland, Catherine McFarland Jackson, and Jerome McFarland.
William leaves to cherish his memory, children: Tausha Harris (Aaron), Rhonda Quinn (Fred); stepchildren: Lucretia Smith, Roy Cables, Deirdre Cables, Tracy Beckett, Ricky Cables, Darryl Roberts, and Denise Young; a host of grandchildren; siblings: Mary Langley, Alberta Young, John Earl McFarland (Carmalita), Anthony McFarland; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
