William “Robert” Coleman was born on September 25, 1944, in Trenton, Kentucky to the late Guy William Coleman and Johnetta (Jordan) Coleman. Robert, age 77 passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 13, 2022, surrounded by his wife and son.
Robert played basketball and football and ran track for Lincoln High School. He graduated from Lincoln in 1963 and Alcorn State University in 1967. After college, he returned home and attended the University of Evansville where he received his master’s degree.
After graduate school, Robert started his career with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s department and served the community for 33 years. He was a devoted member of New Hope Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Anna Louise Coleman.
Robert leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 54 years: Virginia Ann (Whitlock) Coleman; daughter: Kimberly Collier-Clardy; son: Prince Walter Coleman; sisters: Rosetta Irvin and Mary Elizabeth (Coleman) Ware; brother: James Walter Coleman; granddaughter: Libby Clardy; sister-in-law: Viola (Whitlock) Jackson; brother-in-law: James Brandon Whitlock; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family would like to give a special thanks to all the caregivers and Heart to Heart hospice workers.
