William Lee Burris, 64, born to Juanita Madison Burris and William Smith of Henderson, passed away on Thursday, October 21.
William attended Henderson County High School. He worked as a machine operator at Alcan for many years. He was a faithful member of Seventh Street Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He truly loved those girls with all his heart – “Paw Paw’s Babies” he would say. There wasn’t a day that went by that his family didn’t see or talk to him.
Anytime you’d see “Willie B”, you’d see John “Pokie” Bushrod right along with him. They were more than friends -- they were brothers and definitely two peas in a pod. His hobbies included going to the races with his brother, Wallace, and Pokie, drag races, fishing, and hanging on Seventh Street. He had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone if he could.
William was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Terrance Burris; and sister: Barbara Jo Gilbert.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children: Brooke Houston, Brock Houston, Kiley Watts, and Lamar Hunter; grandchildren: Dallas Garner, Violet Houston, Kyonna Watts; siblings: Wallace (Magnolia) Davis, Deborah Berry, Nancy Terry, Teresa Hatchett, Anita Burris, Darlene Burris, Terry (Rev. Adrian) Brooks, and John “Pokie” Bushrod (who was like a brother); cousin: Carl Earl Brooks, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
