Wilbert was born November 7, 1948 to the late Wilbert Shelby, Sr. and Ollie Mae Cheaney (Donald). On October 6, 2021 he transitioned peacefully.
He attended Central High School and later enlisted in the United States Navy. He drove a semi for many years but retired from Pittsburgh Glass. He enjoyed cooking and barbecuing was his thing. Back in the day, he was the ladies’ man on the diving board at Miller’s pool. He was a faithful member of New Beginning Church of God in Christ. He loved his pastor, Elder Goines, and was active in church until his health declined.
He was preceded in death by brothers: Titus Shelby, Bruce Howard, and Wilbert Howard II; and sisters: Kim Shelby and Erica Armstead.
He leaves to cherish his memory his mother: Ollie Mae Cheaney (Donald); brothers: Ramon Ogburn, Timothy (Sharon), Michael Shelby, Tony Shelby, Vernon Barnes, and Jesse Meriweather; sisters: Phyllis Hawes (caregiver), Lynette Bell, Marquette Matchem, Fanchon Hopson, Sharada Parker, and Vera Barnes; sons: Fred Couto (Camile), Shawn Shelby, Ricky Johnson, and Marco Johnson; daughters: Tracy Patton (Charles), Kim Shelby, and Torsheika Carter; aunt: Shirley Ealum; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
