To his family, he was affectionally known as “Rabbit,” “Pedro,” “Buddy,” and “Mr. Kool.” He was born in Hopkins County, Kentucky, on August 18, 1946, to the late Odell and Helen Martin.
Wendell confessed his faith in Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Earlington, KY. Following graduation from J.W. Million High School, where he was the star basketball player, he joined the Navy; once he completed his military service, he and his wife, Brenda, moved to Chicago, IL, where he was employed as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
