Tee-Jay Smith, 51, of Mortons Gap KY, transitioned from earth to heaven on February 7, 2021 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN.
Tee-Jay was born September 16, 1969 in Louisville, KY to Thomas E. Smith and Lynette Hall Smith. He was preceded in death by his stepfather Kermit Carlyle Burns, Sr.
He was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Earlington, KY.
He served in the U.S. Army. Prior to becoming disabled he was employed at Lear Corporation, Tyson Foods, Alcan, Dana, and Washington Inventory. Tee-Jay found pleasure in time spent with his family and friends, four-wheeling, fishing, and operating the family- owned food truck (Tee & Dee’s).
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend for twenty-five years: Dionne Leigh Smith; children: Mesha La’Shea Smith of Central City KY, Vonchelle Ja’Leigh Smith of Louisville KY, Tygh-Javon Smith and Ta’Via Ja’Naigh Smith of Mortons Gap KY; his mother: Lynette Hall Burns of Earlington KY; grandmother: Nettie Belle Gray of Earlington, KY; grandchildren: Ma’Hari Le’Kai Homer, Ceyon Eugene Homer, Aaliyah Jhene’ Drake; Brandon Ivory Smith, Jr., and A’Moura Leigh Smith; step-siblings Nona Turner (Barry) of Compton CA, Kermit Carlyle Burns, Jr. (Linda) of Bossier City LA, Kursten Coffey Burns (Meileh) of Corona CA, Sharon Burns of Los Angeles CA, and a host of other family members and friends.
Funeral services, family only, will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday, February 13 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Terrence E. Minor, Sr. officiating. Walk-through visitation will be 10:00 – noon at Mason and Sons Funeral Home in Madisonville. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
