Shirley Mae Foster

December 29, 1947 — October 3, 2024

Louisville

Shirley Mae Foster, 76, of Louisville, KY, and formerly of Madisonville, Kentucky, was born December 29, 1947, to the late James Henry Foster and Willie Mae Callin Foster. She passed away on October 3rd, 2024, at Baptist Health Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. She attended Rosenwald High School in Madisonville, KY. Shirley was a homemaker and worked at the Downtown Motel, the U.C. Milk Company, and briefly at the Madisonville Messenger.

In 2005, Shirley moved to Louisville, Kentucky, with her son, Terry. Shirley enjoyed cooking, interior decorating, and family gatherings, and she, along with her twin sister (Faye), loved fashion, dressing up, going out, and having fun. Due to being identical twins and sometimes being hard to tell apart, people in their hometown often called them Mae-Faye. Shirley was the last of 10 children. Having faith and trust in God and knowing there is another life outside this realm, Shirley accepted Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her seven sisters: Genevieve Ray Bell, her twins sister Shirley Faye Foster, Paulette Foster Landers, Blanche Ray Foster, Mary Magdalene Foster, Ruthann Bell, and Barbara Jean Bowles, and two brothers, James Henry Foster, and Isaac James Foster.

She leaves three sons, Terry Foster of Louisville, Kentucky, James Foster (Roxann) of Dawson Springs, Kentucky, and Charles Ray Foster of Owensboro, Kentucky, to cherish her memory. Shirley was the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren: Tay’la Foster, Shy’ia Foster, Maliek Foster, Kianna Foster Chapman, Jamyia Foster, Jalesley Foster, Devin O’Neal Foster, and five great-grandchildren. Shirley v also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

To respect the wishes of Miss. Shirley, there will be a private memorial service only. We ask that you respect the privacy of her family as they grieve in peace. Miss. Shirley always said, “I want people to come see me when I’m alive, not after I die.”
