Shelby Corbin, Jr. of Madisonville, KY was called home on August 16, 2017 to be with the Lord. He was born February 3, 1931 at Hopkins County Hospital to the late Jennie Lambert Holland an Shelby Corbin, Sr.
He attended Rosenwald High School where he enjoyed being a member of the boxing team. He was a coal miner working at the East Diamond Mine and #11 Mine, before retiring from Providence #1 after 27 years. In addition to being a member of the UMWA, Shelby was an active member of the local Masonic Lodge for many years. He was an avid hunter until 2012 when his health prohibited him from participating in that sport. But most of all he enjoyed and looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Shelby was preceded in death by sisters: Bobbie M. Davis, Tommie G. Reynolds; brothers: James Gipson, Eulis Lee Gipson, Charles Harrison Carbon.
Shelby leaves to cherish his memory sons: Michael Smith, Jeremy Smith (Amanda) both of Madisonville; sisters: Virginia Tolbert, Clara Johnson, Geraldine Anthony (Minister Reginald) of St. Louis, MO, Barbara Jean Handley of Owensboro, KY; brothers: Elder Freddie Carbon (Willie), William Henry Carbon (Diane) of St. Louis, MO; 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; mother of his children and long-time friend: Deloris Smith; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Services are Saturday August 26, 2017 at 12:00 Noon at Oak Grove Baptist Church with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial is in Eastside Oddfellows Cemetery. Mason & Sons Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Leave condolences at
