Selma Holland was born May 1, 1928 to the late John Craig and Mary (Romes) Craig in Evansville, Indiana. From this union five children were born. Selma was the 2nd of those five children: John, Dorothy, Donald, and Ruby (Craig). Selma transitioned home to the Lord on January 22, 2023.
Selma fell in love and married childhood sweetheart, the late Venston Eugene Holland. From this union one daughter; Barbara “Diddie” (Holland) Edmonds of Denver, Colorado was born.
Selma attended Lincoln School and worked at Howard Roosa Elementary School for several years. She was a lifelong member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorship of Rev. J.M. Caldwell and Dr. Rev. R. V. Terry, Jr. She was also a devoted member of the Daughter of Isis Cawthar Court #68. She was an active member of the Express Softball Team (Evansville, IN). Mama Selma or Aunt Selma, as she was known by many, made herself available to those in need.
Although Selma lived many miles away from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she had nothing but the highest expectations for them. She provided an earful of love, support, wisdom, and guidance on a regular basis.
Selma loved living in her home with her husband, Venston, on Blackford Avenue and cherished it dearly. In her spare time, Selma enjoyed playing BINGO. Although she loved to win, she enjoyed the time she was able to spend with friends and others while playing.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: John and Donald; and sister: Dorothy.
She leaves to cherish wonderful memories and love, daughter: Barbara Edmonds; son-in-law: Freddie Edmonds, Sr; sister: Ruby Nash of Denver, CO; grandchildren: Lori Mack, Lorna Edmonds, and Freddie Edmonds II; great-grandchildren: Gavin and Clayton Brown, Jazz, Alexis, Freddie III, Kashus Edmonds; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
