Sarah Lee Roach, 86, passed away, Monday, May 28, 2018 at the Pepper Family’s Journey Care Hospice Center in Barrington, IL, surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Evansville, Indiana on March 20, 1932, Sarah was the 9th child of the late Charles Herman and Birdie Lee (Parker) Kivel.
She was a faithful member of Metropolitan Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Evansville, IN and beacon of inspiration for the community and all she encountered. As a preschool teacher, for more than 20 years, she loved and looked after children at the Carver Community Organization. She served as a mother figure to many; opening her home to family, friends and those in need, with Christ-like warmth and hospitality.
Sarah enjoyed, studying her bible diligently each day, singing, canning her famous cha-cha, watching basketball games with her sisters, gardening, baking the most delicious cherry custard pies and spending time with her family. She will be remembered for her generous spirit; evident, for example, by her tendency to set aside food for the birds and critters that would frequent her front yard.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William “Bill” Roach; sisters, Inez, Anna, Marybelle, Alice Ruth and Eva Mae; and brothers, James, Wesley and Charles. She leaves to cherish her memory daughter, Stephanie (Raheem Hasan); grandchildren, Lydia (Anthony Jordan-Parnell) and Caleb; sister, Dorothy Carson; and many nieces, nephews, and a host of loved ones and friends, all touched by her love for God and her beautiful spirit.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Monday June 4, 2018 with a viewing from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Metropolitan Seventh Day Adventist Church with visitation on Sunday June 3, 2018 at R. Mason Brothers Memorial Chapel from 5-7:30 p.m.
