Rosa Virginia Johnson, 98, went to rest in her heavenly home on October 17, 2022, at 5:30 a.m. in her home surrounded by her 5 children. She was born to the late Willie Moore and the late Minnie Ella Scisney in Wheatcroft, KY.
Rosa attended J.W. Million High School in Earlington, KY. She was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and great-great-great-grandmother, and great-great-great-great. She was very proud of the 6 generations of her family. Rosa was an accomplished cook who was best known for her homemade potato salad, egg pie, and the best-grilled hamburgers this side of Madisonville. She loved all flowers, but her favorites were Tulips and Azaleas.
Rosa was a strong single mother who raised her three girls and two boys making sure they knew about Jesus Christ and how to serve Him at an early age. Rosa was an advocate of education and believed that all children should have a decent education. She was overjoyed to see all five of her children walk across the stage to receive their High School diplomas. While raising her children, Rosa still found time to work outside the home as a domestic worker. She was employed several years for Mrs. Katherine Reid and her mother (Mam-Maw) at Reid Funeral Home. She later moved on to work many years for Mr. and Mrs. Bill Corum and their 2 children William (Billy) and Libby. She often spoke of their neighbors T. and Helen and daughter Loudel.
Rosa was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where at one time she sang in the Choir and was a member of the Women’s Quartet called “the Friendly Four Juniors”. She was active in her church and member of the Mothers Board. On December 14. 1961, Rosa married Charles “Tutt” Johnson. They enjoyed fishing, watching their grandchildren play Little League Baseball, and their French Poodle “Buffie”.
Rosa leaves to cherish her precious memories, 4 daughters: Nadine McNeal, Rosetta Nicholson, Delphine Nicholson all of Madisonville, Clara Jackson, of Evansville, IN; 2 sons: Donnie Nicholson and Melvin Nicholson both of Madisonville; 2 sisters: Wanda (Lincoln) Thomas of Earlington, Delois Harris, Gary, IN; one brother: Dallas (Carolyn) Scisney of Madisonville; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren, 41 great- great- great-grandchildren; 10 great- great- great-great-grandchildren; 3 cousins: Ronald Mimms, Walker Moore, Jr., Georgella Blanton; her loving neighbors and all the children of her best friends, Opal and Curtis Wilkes.
