Ronald Ray Lyles, 68, of Evansville, Indiana, transitioned to his heavenly home February 3, 2016.
He was born April 24, 1947, in Princeton, Indiana, the son of the late Dr. Carl C. Lyles, Sr. and Mary E. Lyles. He was the great great grandson of Joshua Lyles, founder of Lyles Station, IN.
Ron graduated from Central High School and attended the University of Southern Indiana. He was an Army veteran and a member of the Otis Stone American Legion Post #354. Ron was an advocate for Lyles Station. His dream of the family settlement being honored at the Smithsonian Institute in our nation’s capital will materialize this year. He volunteered at the Veterans Administration Center, African American Museum in Evansville, IN, and promoted the Dr. Carl C. Lyles, Sr. scholarship fund at Ivy Tech.
Ron was preceded in death by his son, Ronald R. Lyles, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Francies Mayes Lyles of Cadiz, KY; daughter, CheRhonda M. Greenlee (Marreo) of Louisville, KY; grandchildren: Brett L. Ringo, Jr. of Evansville, IN, CheMarra L. and Million L. Greenlee of Louisville, KY; his oldest brother, Carl C. Lyles, Jr. (Edith) of Evansville, IN and youngest brother Harry M. Lyles, Sr. (Gloria) of Marietta, GA; two nieces: Chera M. Jones (Christopher) of Tampa, FL and Mary Elena Lyles of Rancho Cucamonga, California; three nephews: Carl C. Lyles III of Marietta, GA, Harry M. Lyles, Jr., and Joshua Lyles of Atlanta, GA; a host of cousins, family, and friends.
Services will be held Friday, February 12, 2016 at Alexander AME Church in Evansville, Indiana. Visitation is from 9am to 12pm and the Homegoing Celebration will begin at 12pm. The family requests all condolences be mailed to Mason Brothers Funeral Home 1001 Lincoln Ave, Evansville, IN 47714.
