Robert Lee Fletcher, 72, passed away on February 19, 2019 at his residence surrounded by family and friends. He was born on November 20, 1946 to Herbert Lee Fletcher and Geneva Outlaw Jenkins in Cairo, Kentucky.
Robert accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at an early age and was baptized at Cairo Church. His family relocated to Evansville in 1948. As a young man he always enjoyed going back to Cairo to work on his grandparent’s farm. He was educated in the Evansville Vanderburgh School System, graduating from North High School in 1964. After graduation Robert enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country in the Vietnam War, as a tank mechanic, from July 1966 to June 1967.
Robert had a passion for driving and working on cars. He enjoyed hot-rodding his favorite car, an Oldsmobile 442. He would labor for hours to repair a problem, refusing to let the issue defeat him. He loved spending time with family and friends. He retired in 2003 from Laborers’ Local 561.
