Robert L. Cooper, Sr., 86 of Evansville, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 4, 2016 at his home surrounded by family.
Al, as he was fondly called, was born August 29, 1929, in Lambert Mississippi to Hattie (Johnson) and Ollice Cooper. Both parents preceded him in death. He was educated in the Crowder Mississippi School System. After relocating to Evansville he met and married Katie (Thomas) Cooper.
Al was a very hard worker. He was employed by Peyronnin Construction Company for many years and was a dedicated member of the Laborers International Union, Local 561. Al was an avid fisherman and hunter. He received great joy from fishing with his children, grandchildren, family and friends.
Al was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend. He truly loved his family. Al was a humorous man, always making everyone laugh at his witty remarks.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruby Lee Cooper and three sisters and eight brothers.
Forever cherishing his memories are his loving wife Katie; three daughters: Clementine Brown, Bettye Griffith and Farestine (Johnny) Johnson; one son, Robert Cooper, Jr.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Watson and Katherine Johnson; one brother Charlie Cooper.
A celebration of Al’s life will be Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Line Street Church of Christ, 756 Line Street, Evansville, Indiana 47713, with visitation beginning at 9 A.M. until service time at 11:00 A.M. Service will be officiated by Minister Geno L. Merriweather. Entombment at Sunset Memorial Park.
