Robert Eugene “Bobby” Browder was born in Madisonville, KY on July 1, 1958 to the late Joe A. Browder, Sr. and the late Myrtle Mae Adams. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Madisonville, KY.
As a teenager, Bobby was very work-minded and started selling Grit Magazine and later working at The Razor’s Edge Barber Shop.
Bobby graduated from Madisonville North Hopkins High School in 1977, and enlisted in the United States Air Force the same year and was Honorably discharged in 1985. He was an inventory management specialist in the Air Force. His decorations and medals included the Air Force Training Ribbon, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, and Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.
Following service, Bobby worked briefly as a private contractor and then for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company as a tire builder for twelve years, moving to Topeka, Kansas, when the Madisonville plant shut down. While in Topeka, he earned his Associates (1998) and Bachelor’s (2000) Degrees from Washburn University. He earned his first Master’s Degree from Murray State in 2005.
Bobby earned and maintained his Kentucky Teacher Certification and was a substitute teacher in Hopkins, Webster, and Union counties through 2011. He also worked at the Job Corp Center in Morganfield as an instructor.
Our brother quit drinking alcohol and participated in recovery self-help groups in the mid-1980s, and he never turned back. He made many acquaintances and established lifelong friendships through his membership and participation in these meetings and related functions.
Bobby did not have any children of his own, but he treated his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews as his “children” through his many acts of love, kindness, and generosity toward them.
Bobby was a “matter-of-fact” type of person, and when he said something, he meant it (at least at the time). He loved his whole boiled chicken, seasoned to his taste. Often, he was willing to help out when times got hard for friends or family members.
Bobby was preceded in death by both his parents; and by siblings: James L. “Butch” Minor, Jr., Ann E. Minor Calhoun, and Victoria L. Adams.
Bobby leaves to cherish his memory sisters: Mary L (Torris, Sr.) Powell of Providence, KY, Clara G. “Candy” Belle of Earlington, KY, Carolyn (Dallas) Scisney of Madisonville, KY, Cynthia K. “Cyn or San” Woods of Madisonville, KY, and Carolyn L. “Pete” Browder of Providence, KY; brother: Joe A. Browder, Jr. of Louisville, KY; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many extended family members; including special friends: Amy Elliott of Overland Park, KS, Anna Logan of Madisonville, KY; a special thanks to Marvin Davis, Anthony “Fat Daddy” Casey, and Kenny “Baby Boz” Bostick of Madisonville, KY for assisting Bobby with transportation to and from his appointments.
