Richard “Sherman” Carter was born on May 7, 1939, in Hebbardsville, Ky to the late Samuel David Sr. and Eula Frances Carter. He departed his life on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2020 at the Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, IN.
Most everyone knew him as Sherman “Daddy Rabbit” Carter because of his skills and tenacity. He attended Henderson County Training School, and Douglas High School where he played and excelled in football and basketball. He was employed at several occupations, but he worked for many years at Holy Name School where he later retired.
He joined the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church at an early age. He later joined the New Jerusalem Baptist Church by letter, and served on the Senior Usher Board (Chaplin), the Men's Choir, and headed up the New Jerusalem Summer Basketball Camp.
Preceding him in death: father and mother (Samuel David Sr. and Eula Frances Carter); three brothers (John David, Samuel Jr., James Ellis Carter); four sisters (Mammie Lois, Francele and Catherine Carter, Nettie Mae Keye); one special friend of 30 years (Patricia Carter); one son (Stevie Sanners); four special children ( James, Sharon Ann, Elaine, and Jackie Sanners).
He leaves to mourn his demise, two daughters: Marilyn (Stevie) Eldridge, Kathy Sanners, both of Henderson, KY; four sons: Ricky Northington of Rockford Ill, Lawrence (Shannon) Sanners, and David (Duana) Sanners both of Evansville, Dana (Marquetta) Sanners of Lexington, KY; seven special children: Patrick (Debbie), Marilyn, and Sean Carter, Ella Brady, Sandra, Ken, Rev. Larry Sanners; thirteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two sisters: Martha and Mary Carter both of Henderson; honorary sister: Lois Harper of Henderson; one uncle: Albert Hairlson of Henderson; one sister-in-law: Dora Mae Carter; and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.
