Rene A. McCormick of Evansville, IN, passed into eternal peace on Sunday, February 11, 2024. She was born on December 10, 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri. Rene retired from Bristol Myers Squibb after thirty-two years of commitment. She lived in Princeton and Evansville, IN most of her life. She earned her education at Princeton High School and Indiana University- Bloomington. While at IU, she joined the Gamma Nu Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Later, in 1978, Rene was one of thirteen sorority members to charter the Evansville Alumnae Chapter. She was a vibrant and dedicated member of the sorority with a passion for social action and education. In 2018, the chapter honored Rene and two other charter members through the presentation of the naming of the MOR (McCormick/Outlaw/Roberts) Scholarship that supports the academic success of youth transitioning to college from the Evansville area. Rene was an active member of her community and strived to support growth through events and volunteering. She served in several roles for her Neighborhood Association and was an advocate for the Evansville African American Museum. She was a past member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Princeton, IN, and a service participant at Smithfield Baptist Church in Rockport, IN. Rene enjoyed traveling and sampling the finer things in life with her husband. She had a deep appreciation for artistic activities and expression, such as crochet, drawing, music, dance, and romance literature and shows. Rene was preceded in death by her parents Ollie Jones and Ardell (Ricks) Hardiman, and sister Barbara E. Greene. Rene is survived by her best friend and husband Herman McCormick, son William Adrian Jones of Wilton Manors, FL; stepdaughters Christy Carbon, Vicky Acton, and Dedra McCormick of Owensville, KY, and Constance McCormick of Evansville, IN; siblings James (Lynn) Hardiman of Evansville, IN; (John Greene) and Carmen Jones of Princeton, IN.
