Michael Jerome Vaughn was born in Chicago, Illinois to Roy and Celestine (Kirby) Vaughn on July 14, 1958. After moving to Evansville, he began work at the Red Spot Paint Company and united with the Mt. Olive Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. In 1999 Michael married Carmelita, solidifying a union that had begun years before when he lived in Chicago. In recent years, Michael united with the People’s Church, the Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Adrian Brooks, Sr.
Michael met few strangers. He was open to developing new friends. He loved his family and would spend many hours with them providing laughter, serious dialogue, and a strong opinion about matters of importance. He would surprise family with not a kiss on the cheek, but a lick on the cheek. Their response would cause him to break out in a big laugh.
Michael’s serious side showed up in a hand-written note that expressed his inner thoughts on success, life and relationships. A piece of him has been preserved for those who loved him most.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Romeo Marce Wright. His legacy will live on through his wife, Carmelita; two sons, Michael J. (Ariana McWilliams) Wright and Martez D. Vaughn; a daughter, Shikole (Darryl) Henderson; a sister/mom, Ruby (John) Kelly-McDaniel; a brother, James (LaDonna) Mayes all of Evansville, IN; a sister-in-law, Althea (Zane) Morris; two brothers-in-law, Leon and Lamont (Cathy) Washington all of Chicago; 4 grandchildren, Romeo Wright, Jr., Romanno Wright, Alaysia Vaughn and Michael J.
