Mary Jean Collins Baker was born on November 23, 1927, to the late Staton Collins and Tressie Baker Collins. She worked at Jewel Cafeteria before becoming a homemaker. She departed this life on November 22, 2021, at 5:15 p.m.
Mary was a member of Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Culinary Committee. She never met a stranger and loved to feed anyone with a hot home-cooked meal until her health began to fail her. Her hobbies were embroidering, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Mary’s heart belonged to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with a piece of it for her family, whom she prayed over and loved dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years: Ted Baker, Jr.; brothers: Frank, Ike, and Billy Collins; sisters: Dorothy Reeves, Martha Landours, and Alberta Clark.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters: Mary (Earl) Jordan and Shirley Baker both of Evansville, Indiana; sons: Theodore (Ann) Baker III of Charlotte Tennessee, and Thomas (Frances) Baker of Henderson, Kentucky; brother: Donnal (Jerrye) Collins of Evansville, Indiana; 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who held a special place in her heart.
The family would like to thank Linda White Hospice House and the staff of Deaconess Midtown Hospital for the loving care they gave to our loved one.
Services are 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Nazarene Baptist Church with visitation from 11:00 am until service time. A mask is required for both services.
