Martha Anne Thomas, age 94, affectionately known as “Tam” by her family, passed away on September 26, 2020 in Evansville, IN. She was born March 31, 1926 in Hopkinsville, KY to Willie Warfield and Annie Warfield Finch. Martha graduated from Attucks High School in Hopkinsville and went on to receive her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Kentucky State University. She later attained her Master of Science Degree in Education from Indiana State University. Martha was an educator in the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation for over 40 years, including First Avenue Centennial and Helfrich Park schools. She retired from the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation after an illustrious career.
Martha was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Evansville, Indiana for over 60 years where she was active and held many positions. She was the family historian and accepted the responsibility of organizing many family reunions.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years: Harding Vanderbilt Thomas; mother: Annie Warfield Finch; father: Willie Warfield; brother: R.B. Warfield; sisters: Genevieve Wilson and Sallie Avant.
Among those who will cherish her memories include her two sons: Rendall V. Thomas and wife Dr. Tina C. Mason-Thomas, Glenn E. Thomas, and wife Tracey Marie Thomas; grandchildren: Dermond E. Thomas and wife Kimberly Thomas, Brandon V. Thomas, Julian A. Thomas, Mayimuna Richards and husband Bruce Richards, Chilembwe Mason and Dasha Kaverina; great-grandchildren: Mason, Olivia, Brie, Cole, Avery, Benjamin; her sister: Barbara Warfield Brewer; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Services are 12 noon Saturday October 10, 2020 at R. Mason Brothers Memorial Chapel with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Leave condolences at
