Marjorie Armstead, 94, of Newburgh, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 9, 2023.
She retired from Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation after teaching for 30 years. She was a lifetime member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a faithful servant until her failing health.
She was married to James H. Armstead on June 5, 1958, and to this union, she gained 5 children and later another daughter was added to their family.
She was an active member in numerous church and civic organizations. She was also an active member of the Phi Delta Kappa Sorority of Evansville and held many national offices.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband,: James H. Armstead; her parents: James Watkins, Reverend Albert, and Lillian Newell; son: James Ira Armstead; daughter: Dounia McGhee; sisters: Lurenia Bowen and Lenora Pearson; and brother: James Watkins.
She leaves to cherish her memory: 2 daughters Feylicia Washington of Newburgh and Naomi “Sweet Pea” Disco of Cincinnati, OH; 2 sons: Dwight (Diane) of Cincinnati and Orville (Jacqueline) of Chesapeake, VA,: a niece whom she raised: Sharon Pearson of Chicago; sister: Cecelia Watkins of California; sister in law: Mae Jo Armstead; 22 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
