Mariah “Myrie” Beatrice Grissett, age 95, died October 14, 2015 at her home in Evansville with her husband and daughter by her side.
Bea, as she was known to family and friends, was born in Caldwell County, KY to Dimple and Andrew Henry on April 26, 1920.
Mother Grissett began her spiritual journey at Shepherd Street Baptist Church in Princeton, Ky. She moved to Evansville in 1955 where she joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. She was a devoted member for over 50 years. During this time, she belonged to the choir, was chairperson of Circle of Faith, vice-president and later president of the Mothers’ Board, a faithful attendant to Sunday School and Bible Study, and was recently awarded the honor of becoming President Emeritus of the Mothers’ Board.
Bea retired from Whirlpool in 1985. She felt her mission was to help others and did so by transporting church members and friends to church, shopping, doctors’ appointments, and wherever they needed to go. She continued to do so until her health declined and she could no longer drive. She was 94.
Bea was preceded in death by her mother and father, five sisters, three brothers, a granddaughter, and four step-sons.
She is survived by her husband, Henry F. Grissett, Sr.; her son, Elgin Reynolds; her daughter, Bernice (Willie) Williams; a granddaughter, M. Joyce (David) Sutton; two grandsons, Caesar Reynolds and Kip Williams; and a host of grandchildren, step-children, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
