Margaret Janice Wilson, 87, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at The Village at Hamilton Pointe in Newburgh, Indiana. Margaret was born in Evansville, Indiana to Joseph Theodore Wilson and Audrey Margaret Rucker Wilson on August 14, 1936.
Margaret was a lifelong member of New Hope Baptist Church in Evansville, Indiana. She served as a Sunday School Teacher and was a member of Circle of Love.
Margaret graduated from Lincoln High School in the class of 1954. She graduated from Evansville College in the class of 1958 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. In 1966, she graduated from Indiana State University with a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. Margaret taught in elementary schools for 43 years in Kansas City, Kansas; Gary, Indiana; and the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation before retiring in 2001.
She was a Pearl Soror of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. having been initiated March 1, 1957, into Beta Iota Chapter on the campus of Evansville College. She later affiliated with Zeta Zeta Omega, the local graduate chapter, where she was active for several years.
To her family, she was known as Janice. Margaret was an avid basketball fan and she loved to watch Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; Joseph Wilson and Audrey Wilson, brother; Lowell Anthony Wilson; and sister; Sharon Elaine Wilson Britt.
Margaret leaves memories to her son, Robert Anthony Wilson; daughter-in-law, Marcey L. Wilson; grandson, Brandon Joseph Wilson; nephew, Andru Kimmey; nieces, Shana Y. Britt, and Cynthia Watson; and a host of cousins and friends.
