Lois Ann Hanley Casterman, 73, transitioned from Earth to Eternity on July 14, 2023, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital. She was born on October 3, 1949, to the late Dee Russell Hanley and Nevaline Duncan Hanley. Lois was a graduate of Central High School and worked at various companies including the United States Post Office and Sirloin Stockade.
Her early Christian upbringing began at Watkins Temple COGIC where she attended with her mother, and sister, Mary Pauline. The three of them were inseparable as they attended church throughout the week and on Sunday. You did not see one without the other two, even when Lois and her sister reached adulthood. Her mother taught her girls to sew when they were young, and they learned to make their own clothing. Lois loved to sing. She sang in the church choir at Watkins Temple and at funerals and church musical programs throughout the city.
In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Pauline Hanley Wilkerson.
She is survived by first cousins: Annabelle Lawrence, Steve Rankins, Jeremiah Rankins, and Shirley Rankins; Tyrone Power Yarber, who she raised like a son; long-time friend: Thelma Powell; and a host of family and friends.
