Lillian Dorothy Jones

September 9, 1935 — November 21, 2021

Lillian Dorothy Jones, 86, transitioned from earth to eternity on November 21, 2021, at Hamilton Pointe Assisted Living. She was born in Hartford, KY to William R. and Florence Acton Taylor. Dorothy, as she preferred to be called, graduated from Western High School in Owensboro, KY, and later moved to Evansville, IN. where she met and married the love of her life, J.D. Jones in 1960. Throughout her career, Dorothy was employed at Shane’s Manufacturing, George Koch & Sons., and retired from Alcoa Warrick Operations. Not being content to stay at home, Dorothy accepted a position with 4 M Building Solutions at Bristol Myers Squibb for several years.

Dorothy joined Cleaves Memorial CME Church in October of 1956 with her sister Edna and her two cousins, Anna and Burna Dean Owens. She was a faithful member for 65 years, attending morning worship until her health declined. Throughout her time at Cleaves, Dorothy was a faithful and active member who supported all of the ministries and projects of the church. She was a Steward of the church for more than 30 years helping to manage the finances. As a 40-year member of the Missionary Society, Dorothy was active in preparing meals at the Ronald McDonald House, preparing gift bags for the sick & shut-in, and served as the treasurer of the flower & gift fund for over 15 years. Dorothy was a member of the Joy Club and an avid student of the bible. She was a regular attendee of Sunday School and Bible Study at Cleaves in addition to attending Nazarene’s Bible Study. Her love of God was evidenced in the way she lived her life.

In her young adult life, Dorothy was an avid bowler. Due to her bowling skills, she was a member of several bowling leagues. Travel was a love of Dorothy’s as well. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States to site-see and visit family and friends as well as cruising to tropical destinations. Her favorite island was the island of Grenada. Her greatest love was spending time with her family, JD, Beverly, and Brittany. And anyone who knew Dorothy was well aware of her love for cats. Pumpkin “Pum Pum” was her love and joy, and Muffin was a close second. As Dorothy would say, “They are members of the family”.
The day her granddaughter Brittany (Baby Cakes) was born brought added joy and love into Dorothy’s (Gran Gran) life. She & JD raised her from the age of 13 until she went away to college. Brittany’s love for Gran-Gran was beyond words and immeasurable. Her grandmother was her heart & joy.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy is preceded in death by siblings: Elvis Taylor, Isabel Webster, Oneida Day, and Edna Ford.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 61 years, James D. “JD” Jones; daughter: Beverly (Ray) Murphy; stepson: Wayne Jones; stepdaughter: Katherine Thomas; grand-daughter: Brittany (Alice) Jones; sister: Willa Mae Carter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her Cleaves Church Family.
