Leon Swope, Sr. was born December 26, 1951, the son of Josh C. Swope, Sr. and Lottie Johnson. He departed this life on December 9, 2018 at the age of 66.
Leon was baptized at an early age at First Ebenezer Baptist Church by the late Rev. Singleton. He attended Ivy Tech Community College.
Leon had a variety of interests. He loved to sing and cook (especially barbecue); he was a fanatic about politics; he loved to buy and watch action movies; and he loved being a jokester. Most of all, he was a loving and caring person - always willing to lend a helping hand to family and friends.
Leon was preceded in death by his father, Josh Swope, Sr.; a brother, Josh Swope, Jr. and a sister, Sheila "Delphine" Swope.
Surviving are his daughters: Ursala Joy Manley of San Diego CA and Angela Brown of Vallejo CA; a son, Leon "LJ" Swope II of Hopkinsville KY; grandchildren: D.J., J.D., and Shakeela; and a great-grandson, Jabber - all of California; his mother, Lottie Swope; a sister, Jean Swope - both of Evansville; a sister-in-law, Karen E Swope; nephews: Jamal (Radesha) Swope, Dion Fox, Shaun (Emily) Swope, Jawan Jones, Willie "Tre" (Tabitha) Fox III, and Timothy Swope Sr; an uncle, Leonard "Uncle Boat" Johnson of Henderson KY; and great nieces and nephews.
Services are Monday, December 17, 2018 at 12:00pm at R. Mason Brothers Memorial Chapel, 1001 Lincoln Avenue, Evansville IN 47714 with visitation from 10:00am until service time. Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. Condolences may be left at
