Our beloved mother, Laverne Hinton, answered the call from our Lord to ascend to His presence on Monday, August 24, 2020 at Deaconess Hospital. Her birth on July 17, 1932, signaled a life of service. She was born to Virginia and Warren Chester Flowers, Sr. Ms. Hinton was a beloved member of the Evansville community. Having completed high school at Lincoln High, she continued her life working at the Evansville Police Department, Bristol Myers, and retired from the Evansville Housing Authority. In 1952, she married Joe Hinton. She has two daughters, Kimberly and Kandace Hinton. Ms. Hinton’s life will be remembered as one that served humanity. The doors to her home were always open to strangers and her table fed many. At the time of her departure, she was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where she had been actively involved for sixty-six years. She sang in the choir, served as the chair of the Music Department and was the Youth Director. Beyond New Hope M.B. Church, she was also actively involved in the National Baptist Convention where she served as the President of the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc.’s Matrons and the President of the General Missionary Baptist State Convention of Indiana, Inc.’s Women’s Auxiliary. In addition to her daughters, she will be missed and mourned by her brother, George R. Flowers, Sr., a host of family members, friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ.
