John was born May 10, 1931 in Montgomery County, Clarksville, Tennessee to the union of the late Mr. Will Ussery and Alice (Leigh) Ussery. From this union, ten children were born. Unfortunately, John’s mother joined the heavenly host while he was still at a very young age of 13.
John was a mechanical truck tire changer for Sears and Signal Truck Line. He worked for 35 years before retiring.
John joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. W.R. Brown, Sr. in 1961. He was a faithful member of the Senior Usher Board at New Hope. John moved his membership to Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Larry A. Rascoe, Sr. John was an active member of the Senior Usher Board until his health failed him.
John enjoyed traveling with Nettie and his family. The two enjoyed cruises together and took their first grandson to Florida.
He was an avid gardener. He enjoyed working on his home and studying the Bible.
On Sunday, February 4, 2018, death stepped in and eternal life began for our beloved Spouse, Father, Grandfather, and Great grandfather (Great Papa).
John leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Nettie; daughter, Agnes M. (Donald) Taylor; sons: John A. Ussery of Miami FL and David W. Ussery; three sisters: Jean Gains of Baltimore MD, Della Tramil, and Christine (James) Cage of Clarksville TN; sister-in-law, Bettye Ussery; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
