Jessie Mae Armstead, age 96, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at her home in Henderson KY.
She was born to the union of Charlie and Minerva Powell Johnson on July 23, 1922 in Robards, Kentucky.
Jessie professed a hope in Christ at Bethel Baptist Church in Robards. She later became a member of the Church of God in Christ under the pastorate of Elder V L. Sanders and Superintendent Harlan Armstead, her son. A faithful member and supporter of her church, Jessie served as Church Mother for 50 years and Sunday School teacher for 22 years.
Jessie helped to support her family by cleaning homes for 70 years. She retired at the age of 86. Jessie actually enjoyed cleaning and kept her own home clean to the end. The last places she worked were in the homes of Benson and Patsy Campbell and Pam Parrish and their families. These people became Jessie’s extended family and that bond of love continues.

She was preceded in death by two sons: Archie Davie and Jacob Armstead; two sisters: Mabel Armstead and Margaret Johnson; eight brothers: Walter Johnson, Sealie Johnson, Phil Johnson, Willie Johnson, Dudley Johnson, Charlie Johnson, Joe Johnson, and Clinton Johnson.
