“When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.”
James D. Thompson, 74, transitioned from earth to eternity on September 2, 2021, at the Lewis Stokes Veterans Medical Center in Cleveland. He was born April 2, 1947, in Detroit, MI to James Edward Thompson and Ruth Parshay Thompson. He lived in Cleveland, Ohio all of his adult life.
We celebrate the life of someone who was proud to serve his country. James enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. His time in the army taught him the value of discipline and teamwork. This experience also played a very important role in his life as he learned the benefits of hard work. JD, as he was often called, was given an honorable discharge when he completed his tour of duty. Upon leaving the military, James D. became employed with the United States Post Office as a Mail Carrier retiring after 27 years of service. When he retired on July 31, 2009, he was given an award by the United States Postal Service.
One of James' assets was his connection with people and his pleasing personality. While he delivered the mail, his kind heart and his enthusiastic love for life were enjoyed by all who came in contact with him. He enjoyed socializing with his co-workers and playing cards with his friends. He was a generous man who always wanted to help his friends and others. His generosity and friendship remained until his death.
James D. was preceded in death by his parents, James Edward Thompson and Ruth Parshay Thompson, and sister, Grace Ann Thompson.
He is survived by his sister, Frances L. Thompson, his other half, and several cousins and friends.
