James Allen Garfield Stewart died June 14, 2017, in the Philippines at 6:00 pm after a lingering illness. He had been residing there for the last three years with his wife Elisa Abalanzar Stewart and stepdaughter Shahannah Abalanzar.
James was born November 5, 1940, in Evansville IN to William T. & Molly P. Stewart. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Evansville IN in 1959 after which he was drafted into the United Stated Army. He did two tours in Vietnam and eventually left the service after he was injured the second time.
James went to school for Cosmetology (Barbering) and Photography. He owned “J’s” Barber Shop on Kentucky Ave and Walnut street in Evansville, IN. His outgoing personality and ability to converse with people afforded him the opportunity to have a career in sales and to be an entrepreneur. He was known as the “Picture Man” and was seen at various social functions taking pictures to help you remember the occasion.
In 1983 James dedicated his life to serve Jehovah.He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses at a Convention in Louisville Ky. He grew to love Jehovah very much and wanted everyone he met to know about our loving Creator Jehovah God. James served as a fulltime minister or “Regular Pioneer” and a Ministerial Servant before his illness.
James was previously married to Mary Smith and had three step children, that he was very fond of: Michele(Derrick) Bruce, Shannon (Rogge) Wytovak, Jeffery (Frances) Stewart. He had six step grandchildren and loved them all as his own and taught them the truth.
James was preceded in death by his parents William T. & Molly P. Stewart, a sister Lulu Dunkerson, and a brother Joseph William Stewart.
Survived by his four sisters: Vata (Fred) Westbrook of Evansville IN, Ruth Juanita Fox of Lansing Michigan, Edna ( Theophus)Todd of Indianapolis IN, and Katherine G. Stewart of Evansville IN. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many loving and caring friends in Evansville IN and in Dumaguette City, Philippines.
Memorial service will be held at the Northwest Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 2012 Maxwell Avenue Evansville In 47711, on Saturday July 1, 2017 at 3:00 pm. Friends may visit from 2:00 pm until time of memorial service at 3:00.
