James Walter Cavitt was born February 29, 1936, in Wingo, Kentucky to the late Ava Ruth Bradford Cavitt and the late Hurdel Cavitt. He was called to rest on June 8, 2022.
James was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church in Mayfield and dearly loved his church and church family. He was kind and loving to all who knew him. He enjoyed entertaining others and sitting around telling jokes which caused people to refer to him as the "oldest teenager". James had a special love for his grandchildren. He was known for wearing a white turtleneck shirt year around. He was previously employed at the Mayfield Police Department.
In addition to his parents, James was also preceded in death by his sister: Joyce Cavitt; and brother: Charles R. Sherrill.
He leaves to cherish his memory, six daughters: Cynthia (Charles) Jones, Martha Jean McCampbell, Brenda (Marvin) Tucker, Tonya Kelly, Deeneen Moss, all of Mayfield, and Samantha Hayes of Louisville, KY; one son: Greg McCary of Mayfield; special niece: Hallie McCampbell; nephew: Danny Kirby both of Mayfield; several grand and great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
James, your wallet is in your socks. Rest in Peace. The Family
