Herbert A. Edwards

Herbert A. (Herb) Edwards, 89, of Evansville, went to be with the Lord on, Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born on March 11, 1930 in Evansville, IN to the late Charles A. and Beulah O. (Graham) Edwards. He was 17th of 20 children.
Herbert was employed as a professional wholesale florist manager with Zeidler Florist and Bohnsack Florist for 45 years until retiring in 1995. He was an active member of Sts. Mary & John Parish, 613 Cherry Street, Evansville.
He was awarded for his ten years of service with Evansville State Hospital in 1973 and for service to the Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Evansville as a board member from 1989 – 1995. Herb received the John C. Rager Award in 2000 for outstanding and devoted service to the people of St. Mary Catholic Church. The American Cancer Society recognized him as a member of the Health Fairs Leadership Council in 2005.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Martin D. Edwards and his 11 brothers: Karl Edwards, Frank Edwards, Charles Edwards, Robert Edwards, Francis (Max) Edwards, Paul Edwards deceased at birth, George Edwards, John Edwards, Walter Edwards, Raymond Edwards, Harold Edwards his twin died on January 13, 2000; 7 sisters: Marie Douglas, Mollie Williams, Pilar Lawrence, Sudie Easley, Carmenlita Porter, Alma Jackson, Beulah (Bumpty) Williams.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Rhoda B. (Bert) Edwards; daughter: Christine Edwards Murray (James); sons: Michael H. C. Edwards (Barbara), William L. Edwards (Gwen), Christopher S. Edwards (Pamela), Thomas P. Edwards (Miriam) and Lawrence D. Edwards (Rhonda); sister: Vera H. Gilbert; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; countless nieces and nephews; and a host of other family members and friends.
