Harry Howard Slaten, Jr. was born October 23, 1945 in Union City, TN to Harry Slaten Sr. and Annie Bell Beckett Slaten. Both parents preceded him in death. He was married to Ruby Jean Slaten who also preceded him in death.
Harry was formerly employed at General Tire Company and Best Western Hotel.
He enjoyed cooking and was family-oriented. He loved to have nice vehicles and really enjoyed travelling. He was a “stand up,” all around nice man who was there to help anyone in need. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, family and friends. Harry cherished his wife dearly. When it came to dressing up, he knew how to dress from head to toe. His suits matched his hats that matched his shoes. He was a well-dressed man.
On June 4, 2019, Harry departed this life leaving to cherish his memory, seven children: Carol (James) Cooper of Louisville KY, Amber Thorpe of Louisville KY, Bertha (Harold) Ware of Janesville WI, Patricia Slaten Williams of Milwaukee WI, Tracey Slaten of Milwaukee WI, Trevon Slaten of Los Angeles CA, and Joshua Freeman of Seattle WA; three step-children whom he loved dearly: Ethelina Daniel of Louisville KY, Alonzo (Nicole) Daniel of Mayfield KY, and Robert Daniel of Mayfield KY; siblings: Mable Slaten of Michigan City IN, Willie Mae Van of Michigan City IN, and Jerry Slaten of Union City TN; 28 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Slaten Sr. and Annie Bell Beckett Slaten; his wife, Ruby Jean Slaten; siblings: Princie Mae Merriweather, Minnie Townsend, Thomas Slaten, and Charles Gilbert; great grandson, CJ Wade; and son-in-law, Joe Williams.
Services are Friday, June 14, 2019 at 1:00pm at St. James AME Church in Mayfield KY with visitation from 11:00am until service time. Burial at Oak Rest Cemetery. Mason Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
