Grover (George) Goines

October 24, 1924 — May 3, 2017

Born in Canton, Mississippi on October 24, 1924 to Hazie and Addie Jones Goines, Grover Goines gave his life to Christ at the age of 18. When he was 21 he moved to Evansville, Indiana with his first wife Lavern (Miles) Goines with whom he fathered five children. After the home going of his first wife, he met and married Carrie Brown, with whom he shared over thirty years of marriage. He lovingly cared for Carrie until her passing. At the blessed age of 92, he transitioned to Glory on May 3, 2017.
Grover worked at Indiana Hardwood for thirty years where he was a fork lift operator. He retired from there around the age of 66. He was an extraordinary man who many times put others before himself. As an active member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, he drove the church van for several years. In 2007, Grover was honored to receive the Brutte Society Award from the Catholic Church. He was mostly known for his kindness, Christian beliefs and strong faith which he proudly shared with others. He never met a stranger and enjoyed the company of others and spent a lot of his leisure time with friends and family at the local McDonalds on Washington avenue and Carver Senior Service Community Center on 8th street. Grover lived a life filled with joy, praise, and peace and saw the good in everyone. He was loved by many and disliked by no one. Grover always spoke with love and kindness and often encouraged others to become their own version of a beautiful soul.
In addition to his first wife Laverne Goines and his second wife Carrie Goines, Grover was preceded in death by daughter Rebecca Jean Goines and son Tyrone Goines.
Grover leaves to cherish fond and loving memories ( 4) children: Clidy Goines (Pamela), Gladys Jackson (Thomas), Nichelle Goines, and Terry Smith; (3) stepchildren: Sandra Brown-Goines, Verna Thomas (Timothy), Charles Brown; (2) brothers: Rev.
