Gloria Elizabeth Cook

February 2, 1941 — September 9, 2023

Gloria Elizabeth (Mason) Cook was born February 2, 1941, in Earlington, Kentucky to Joseph N. Mason, Sr. and Viola V. Mason. Both parents preceded her in death. Gloria departed this life on September 9, 2023, or as she requested “went to see Jesus”. Gloria was affectionally known to her siblings as Little Sister. This name originated from her older sister Wilma Jean who called her Little Kitten when she was a baby. Their mom insisted Gloria not be referred to that way, so Jean began calling her Little Sister. Little Sister became the backbone of the family to her siblings.
Gloria accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Earlington. As a child on Sunday, she always attended Sunday School, morning worship, and Baptist Training Union (BTU). This was standard practice for all the Mason children. If Little Sister went to the movies on Sunday, she would have to be back in time for BTU. If she was late, her mom would call the movie theater and have her paged. Gloria obtained her GED and later worked as a teacher’s aide at Earlington Elementary School and remained there until she retired. She was known as the Community Mom to the many little children in the neighborhood who hung around her.
Gloria was an exceptional cook. People requested her cakes, pies, divinity, and fudge candy. And when her aunt oversaw cooking activities at church, Gloria always had to make her delicious meatloaf. Her favorite pastime was watching game shows and the NBA on television.
Gloria had one child; a son named Alan L. Mason who preceded her in death. Alan’s son Korey Mason took care of her faithfully and lovingly during her declining health. In addition to her grandson Korey, she leaves behind his children: Carlos Mason, Calajia Mason, Kai’za Mason and Keyairreon Hobgood; her siblings: Wilma Jean Berry (Lawrence) of Louisville, KY, Joe Jr., of Earlington, Ralph Mason of Springfield, IL, and Anita Lenoir (Charles) of Shawnee, KS. She has a special nephew Waymon Mason, who assisted in her care, and another nephew Anthony Alvis and many nieces, cousins, and friends.
