Glen Franklin Green, of Henderson, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023 after a weekend surrounded by his family.
Glen was born on December 17, 1961 to George and Lillian Green in Henderson, Kentucky and was the middle child to two sisters. He graduated from Henderson County High School in 1979, where he was inducted into their sports hall of fame in 2009 for his amazing basketball legacy. He was considered one of the greatest athletes in the history of Henderson County High School and was inducted into the Henderson County Sports Hall of Fame in 2009. He went on to continue his illustrious basketball career at Murray State University, where he played on three Ohio Valley Conference championship teams in the four years he played. He is a part of the Murray State 1000 point club and he remains 13th on the school’s all-time scoring list, 14th in career free throws made, 4th in career assists, and 10th in career steals. He was a two-time All Ohio Valley Conference Player and he was the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the year in the 1982-83 season. After college he was drafted by the Denver Nuggets and he went on to have a successful professional basketball career oversees. After beginning a family he spent his career caring for others in the healthcare industry.
Glen wore many titles over the years: husband, dad, brother, son, friend, and his most favorite, Granddad or “tickle monster” as his grandchildren referred to him. His grandkids loved the hugs he gave, how he always had popsicles, and their visits to him most of all. Every visit started with a “Granddads here!!!” and the biggest hugs and kisses. He immensely enjoyed his oldest grandson’s visits more with every time as he began to share his love for basketball.
He was preceded in death by his father: George Green, mother: Lillian Green, and brother: George Green, Jr.
He is survived by his five children: Camecia Lawson, Glynn (Amy) Green, Jordan Green, Courtney Green and Tyrell Bolden; two sisters: LaShryl McGuire and Lydia Green; nieces: Karma Johnson (Anthony) and Kris’tl McGuire; nephew: Chris McGuire (Diara) and Justin Fisher; nine grand children: Isaiah, Lennox, Elena, Everly, Josiah, and Jo'Hannis Green, Dominic and Aniyah Fisher, and Ameliah Thomas; family and friends.
