Gertrude Simpson Dumas was born on April 30, 1921 in Gibson County, Tennessee to the late Joe Henry and Mollie White Simpson. She was called to eternal rest on Monday, August 13, 2018.
Gertrude Simpson Dumas worked as a housekeeper for many years until she retired. She was one of the founding members of Trinity New Hope Christian Church. She also served on the Mother’s Board at the church. She was a faithful member of Trinity New Hope Christian Church until she was not longer able to attend due to illness.
Gertrude was a devoted aunt/mother during her life. She raised four children: Anita, George Jr., Joe and John Lee Simpson. These children were the children of her brothers Charles Wade and George Howard Simpson.
Later, Gertrude was united in matrimony to Robert Douglas Dumas and they spent 40 years together. She leaves her husband to cherish her memories.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mollie White Simpson and Joe Henry Simpson; brothers: George Howard Simpson, Charles Wade Simpson, Joe Ray Simpson, William Junior Simpson, and James William (J.W.) Simpson; a sister, Annie Frances Simpson Arnold; and a nephew, George Simpson, Jr.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Robert Douglas Dumas; stepson, Robert Dumas; sister-in-law, Jo Ann Simpson; niece/daughter, Anita Simpson England of Mayfield KY; two nephew/sons: John Lee Simpson of Mayfield KY and Joe Al Simpson of Owensboro KY; nieces: Marie Pitts of Rutherford TN, Kristen Simpson of Paducah KY, Dianne Meaderds of Chicago IL, Carolyn Simpson of St. Louis MO; nephews: Leon and Gregory Simpson of Murray KY, Bobby Simpson of Mayfield KY, Charlie Roscoe Simpson of Kenton TN, Doug Simpson of St. Louis MO, John Wayne Simpson of Oakland CA; special great-nephew: Thomas Lawrence of Rutherford TN; great-niece: Star Fisk of Union City TN; grandchildren: Tienne, Talia, & Treshad England, and Mitchell & Tristan Dumas – all of Mayfield KY; twelve great-grandchildren; special friend, Mable Brooks; special Godson, John Wesley Blythe; and a host of other nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Monday, August 20, 2018 at 1:00pm at Trinity New Hope Christian Church, 943 West Broadway in Mayfield KY with visitation from 11:00am until service time.
