Florence “Cookie” J. (Collins) King Fleming passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2019. Florence was born on April 6, 1929 in Evansville, Indiana to the late Spencer Collins and Martha (Tarlton) Collins. Although she wasn’t fond of nicknames, Florence was christened “Cookie” at birth by her 10-year old uncle Ted Collins. Florence was a member of Victory Temple Church of God in Christ where she was a Church Mother the last decade of her life. She gave her life to Christ almost fifty years ago, and for many of those years she was on The Mother’s Board and a member of Johnson Temple Church of God in Christ. She was dedicated to her church, family and friends. Florence was an avid reader and always had a genuine interest in learning. She had a great sense of humor and always remained humble and kind. Florence was just in her twenties when preceded in death by her first husband Frank L. King. She would also be preceded in death by her sisters Emma “Tot” Collins, Genova (Collins) Watkins and her only brother, Herbert Collins. Florence was also preceded in death by her husband of forty-seven years, John W. Fleming, and her sons Roderick Scott Fleming and Dana Cedric Fleming.
She is survived by her children: Dennis (Regina) King, Eric (Betty) King, Michael King, Rev. Faye (King) Daniels, Jacqueline “Jackie” King, David King, Kenneth King, Gail (Fleming) Garnett, Dr. Linda (David) McGhee, Brent Fleming and Jennifer Fleming; sisters-in-law: Nadine Collins, Elizabeth (John) Sims and Arnisha Fleming; brother-in-law: E.L. (Hazel) Fleming. Nineteen grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four nieces and four nephews. The King and Fleming Family would like to express sincere thanks and gratitude to our sister Jackie for lovingly caring for our mother until she passed.
