Faye Barbara Lewis Smith was born on Wednesday, March 19, 1941 in Earlington, Kentucky to Samuel W. Lewis and Ruby Lavenia Jefferson Lewis. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and sister, Glenda S. Andrews.
Faye graduated as salutatorian of J. W. Million High School in 1959. She always instilled the importance of education to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed teaching them to read and write before they started school.
Faye worked many years as a telephone operator at South Central Bell Telephone Company. After leaving South Central Bell, she worked as a dispatcher for Ligon Trucking Company.
While living in Danville, Virginia, Faye was a member of White Rock Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher for the women’s senior class. She also loved volunteering as a teacher during vacation bible school. She was a member of the Sisters of Life Christian Travel Club where she enjoyed friendship and fellowship. Faye loved sewing and cooking and people especially loved her fried chicken, chess pies, and sweet tea.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory son, Timothy Lewis of Nürnberg, Germany; daughters: Cynthia Shepherd of Dixon KY, Cheryl Lewis Williams (John) of Hopkinsville KY, Michelle Jones of Atlanta GA, and Kristie Jones Stamps (Phillip) of Danville VA. She was the proud grandmother of Adrian Lewis (Laura), Eboni Shepherd, Brittany Lewis, Evan Shepherd, Aaron Lewis, Endia Shepherd Jones (Joseph), Isaiah Lewis, Olivia Michelle Jones and Phillip Stamps III. She was an awesome great-grandmother to Jaliyah Haynes, Jeremiah Haynes, Ja’Myah Haynes, Antonio Goins, Jr., Rhylan Goins, Stella Lewis, and Rylee Lewis. Also surviving are one brother, Arthur Lewis (Earnette); one nephew, Barry Lewis (Luana); three nieces: Shawn Andrews, Shanele Andrews, and Cher’ron Jones (Shaun). She also leaves behind a host of other relatives, friends, and special friends Vera Johnson, Fay Dickerson, Gloria Cook, and Jessie Ferguson.
Funeral services are Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 1:00pm at Flower Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 720 S. Franklin Street, Madisonville, KY 42431 with same day visitation from 12:00 noon until service time at the church. Burial in Oakwood Cemetery in Earlington, KY.
