Ernest Vernell “Bull” Rodgers was born to Ernest Rodgers and Myrna (Flowers) Rodgers on September 24, 1952 in Evansville, Indiana at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Ernest Vernell was baptized early at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church by Rev. W. R. Brown, Sr. where he sang in the Children’s Choir and participated in youth activities. He attended Evansville Vanderburgh County Schools (EVSC) and graduated as a proud “Bosse Bulldog!”
“Bull” worked for years in the custodial field for EVSC then worked part-time for Mr. George Clements, CEO, until his health no longer allowed.
“My name is Ernest”
Like the song “A Change, A Change Has Come Over Me,” Ernest’s life truly changed. When greeted with “Hi, Bull,” he would cheerfully return the greeting but say “My Name is Ernest.” In recent years, he volunteered at First Ebenezer Baptist Church’s soup kitchen as well as the Salvation Army Clothing Bank. Ernest was also quite active in Bible Study at his apartment complex and will be missed leading Thanksgiving and Holiday prayers. He certainly enjoyed talking about politics and God’s providence and power in these transitional days and times with his cousin, Kim.
“Bull” departed this life on November 10, 2016 at his home.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his dear aunts: LaVerne Hinton and Barbara Jean Warfield; his uncles: George Flowers, Sr. and Anthony Flowers, Sr.; and a “slew” of cousins and friends.
Services are Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 3:00pm at Mason Brothers Memorial Chapel, 1001 Lincoln Avenue with visitation 1:00pm until service time. Condolences may be left at
