Ernest Edward Jones “Papa” was born on January 20, 1944 in Basket, Kentucky to the late Mattie L. Hazelwood and Johnny Jones. On Friday, January 22, 2021, Ernest went home to be with the lord.
Ernest loved God and knew that “God is in control” of all things. He was a devoted member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church where he was the Chairman of the Deacon Board, member of several choirs, and served as the Adult Sunday School Teacher. Ernest graduated from Douglas High School in May of 1962, retired from Alcan Aluminum after 30 plus years, and was an honorable Vietnam army veteran. Ernest was a man of many skills/trades and could be called upon without hesitation by all of the community. He was an active member of a host of organizations including the St. Johns Masonic Lodge #4, Cawthar Shrine Temple No. 118, Moose Lodge 732, The American Legion and The Black Jack Motorcycle Club.
Ernest loved people and he supported everyone he knew. His friendly face could be found at events around the tri-state, parades, school board meetings, churches, funerals, and parties but most of all you could find him riding around town on his award-winning motorcycle. Ernest was loved by so many but God loved him more. He will be truly missed by all.
