Elmore (Phillips) Milton was born on February 28, 1937. She was the sixth of twelve children born to Ezra and Myra Phillips. At an early age, she confessed Christ, was baptized, and became a Couparle AME Methodist Church member. She attended and graduated from Velma Jackson High School in Camden, Mississippi. Upon graduating from high school, she attended a Culinary School.
She married Charles M. Milton on September 3, 1958, and relocated to Evansville, IN. She loved and cared for her husband for 34 years until his passing in 1992. Two children were born into this union. She was a faithful member of Cleaves Memorial CME Church, where she was a member of the Stewardess Board and assisted with other church functions for many years. She worked as a receiving clerk at DeJong’s and Caretenders as a sitter for the elderly until she retired.
Miss Elmore has done everything under the sun. She loved to “fool around in her yard,” planting flower and vegetable gardens, cutting grass, and trimming bushes until age 86. She loved to cook for her family with vegetables harvested from her garden. She has traveled the country and the world, seeing wonders most can only imagine. She has helped to demolish and rebuild homes for Habitat for Humanity. In retirement, she volunteered for many years in the elementary schools, helping children learn to read. She has danced and laughed with her family and friends. Lastly, she loved being a grandmother and spoiling her grandchildren rotten. She is the essence of Ecclesiastes 3.
She was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 22, 2024. She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Debra Milton of Evansville, IN and Trudie Milton-White (Bradley White); three grandchildren, Brandon(Jaylyn) White of Christiana, TN, Bryce White of Nashville, TN, and MiKaila White of Nashville, TN; two great-grandchildren, Jaydon and Bryson; two brothers Emzie(Helen) Phillips of Saint Louis MO, EW Phillips of Jacksonville, AL; one sister Wervner (Archie) Sebree of Evansville, IN and a host of nieces and nephews.
