Eldridge Dewayne Hampton, son of Jean Marvis Hampton “Mama Jean” and Elbridge Hampton, Sr. “Hamp,” was born in Chicago, IL, on December 9, 1958, and departed this life on June 5, 2018.
Eldridge was affectionately known as Bridge, Waynie, JoWaynie, Ice and Candy Man. He was a kind man full of compassion, fun loving, and filled with a comedic, storytelling personality. He was a father, a son, a brother, an uncle, a nephew, a cousin, and a friend.
Eldridge was preceded in death by his mom, Jean Hampton; stepfather, Louis Smith; brother, Michael Anthony Hampton; niece, Calandria Bridgett Hampton; grandparents; and his brother-in-law, James Cartman, with whom he shared a December 9th birthday.
Eldridge Dewayne leaves to celebrate his life, his dad, Elbridge Hampton, Sr.; his children, Eldridge Dewayne Jr. (Daria Bell), Ebony (Tyler Wilson), Elridge Samuel (Chandice), his twins, Eldon and Essence; their mothers, Phyllis Jamison Hampton and Carolyn Davis; his grandchildren, Christian Emmanuel, Tyla Gabrielle Wilson and Elridge Samuel Jr.; his siblings, Elbridge Jr., Pamela Renee (Innocent Zee), Debra Jean, Gloria Kay and Ernest Louis (Ivory); his eldest uncle, Frank Hampton; his special Aunt Cookie, Jeannette Oden (Turner); and numerous aunts and uncles who love him dearly; his special friends, Ann Thomas and Calvin McReynolds; many nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service Saturday, June 16, at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. The viewing will begin at noon, a Masonic Rites Service at 1:00 p.m., and funeral service at 2:00 p.m.
