EDGIE CECIL BURKS, JR, 69, of Sturgis, KY, passed away on October 14, 2022, at St. Vincent Hospital, Evansville, IN, peacefully with his loving wife beside him and, his devoted daughter.
He was born March 3, 1953, in Madisonville, KY, to the late Edgie Cecil Burks, Sr. and Vera Lee Shelton (Burks) Pettie.
Edgie “Junebug”, as most knew him was a 1971 graduate of Union County High School and retired from Peabody Coal Company, Camp Number One Mine in Morganfield, KY after forty-plus years of service. He was raised in his home church Mt. Sterling Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Recently in his later years, he became a regular online front roll member; he and his wife enjoyed listening to his preacher nephew in Louisville, Ky. He grew to love the Word and looked forward every Sunday morning to being blessed. Sometimes, he would call his older sister in Louisville if the service was late starting or if there was an interruption. He wanted to know what was happening; he was online waiting.
His last reassuring conversation with the family was when they heard him call the name JESUS! They knew he was going to be alright.
He leaves to cherish in his memory his loving wife of 46 years Rochelle “Nunu” Burks; his devoted daughter: Chivon Burks Whitlock (Troy) Henderson, KY; his sisters: Sharon Kinard Combs, Louisville, KY, Zelinda Fellows, Morganfield, KY, Clara Caldwell (Renwick), Orlando, FL, and Vanessa Lee, Arlington, Texas; step-sisters: Doris Mack (John), Morganfield, KY, Joyce Pettie Morris, Ft. Wayne, IN; stepbrothers: Charles (Dab) Davis, Ventura, California, David Pettie (Mae), Ft. Wayne, IN; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
