Donna Kaye Hendrix Hargrove was born to Audrey “Tom” Mason (Swope) and Reverend Frank Hendrix on December 10, 1946 in Earlington, Kentucky. On Thursday, October 19, 2023, the Lord called her home in Atlanta, Georgia.
In 1964, Donna graduated from Central High School with honors. Later she attended Lockyear Business College to earn an Associate Degree in Business Management in 1988 earning a 4.0 in her major. She worked as a Qualified Medical Assistant at the Evansville State Hospital, a manager at Debra’s Video Rental, a Home Health Nurse, and retired as a Security employee from the Veterans Administration.
Donna was a faithful member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church in Evansville, Indiana for over 40 years. Donna loved to read books and poetry; play crossword puzzles; watch basketball, game shows, and Jerry Springer. Her favorite pastime was shopping at St. Vincent de Paul, which she later renamed “Macy’s”. She also enjoyed cooking and tending to her garden. Additionally, whenever someone needed food, clothing, or shelter she was always there to help.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband, George Hargrove; brothers: Billy Elliott, Michael Swope, Edward Hendrix, and James Hendrix.
She is survived by children: Carla Winston, Marc Starks and Tonika Starks of Atlanta, Georgia, and Gary Starks of Louisville, Kentucky; daughter-in-law: April Starks; grandchildren: Andrey Winston, Brittney Winston, Christopher Winston, Adrian Hardin, Raven Thomas, Celeste Brewster, Keturah Travis, Corvon Thomas, Jordan Starks, Darin Starks, Ayanna Starks, and Nala Starks; great grandchildren: Lynden Hardin, Alaylah Hardin, James Hardin, Messiah Hardin, Dominic Hardin, Noah Hardin, Jenelle Winston, William Winston, Cali Winston, Kendrick Winston, and Sage Travis; sisters: Cheryl Dean Hendrix, Mary Hendrix Wooldridge, Sandra Burke (Jack); brothers: Terry L. Swope (last living son of Audrey Tom Mason), and Lawrence Hendrix; nieces: Me’Kell Swope and Tyrona Patterson; nephew: Michael Swope, Jr.; and an enormous host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family.
