Delphine “Daphne” LaTrise Nicholson, born on November 11, 1968, transitioned from earth to eternity July 14, 2024 at Hillside Care and Rehab in Madisonville, KY with her aunt and two uncles by her side.
Delphine was lovingly raised by her grandparents, R. Virginia and Charles “Tutt” Johnson where she and her mother lived. She was educated in the Hopkins County School System and Mrs. Ridgewood’s kindergarten. She attended Pride Elementary, Browning Springs Jr. High School, and graduated from Madisonville North Hopkins High School.
Delphine accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in into the fellowship of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Old Hecla Earlington, KY. Although Delphine was a member of Pleasant Grove, she was a faithful attendant of the Oak Grove Baptist Church Sunday School from the time she was a small child until her illness. When Sunday School was over, the van from Pleasant Grove, her home church, would be there to pick her up for service. Delphine loved Oak Grove’s Sunday School especially being taught by one of her favorite cousins, Dwight Carney. Delphine was presented the Minnie Lee Baker Commitment to Excellence award by the Youth Department of Oak Grove.
Delphine loved to cook, read, work puzzles and word search books, and watch t.v. She loved talking on the phone and ordering from QVC. She was a very quiet and free-hearted person. She loved her younger cousins and would share her snacks and goodies with them and fuss when they ate them all up.
Delphine will be missed by her neighbors and loved ones. You could always see her and her mother sitting on the porch watching the cars go by.
In addition to her grandparents who raised her, she was preceded in death by her great grandparents, Lonnie and Minnie Scisney; and great great grandparents, Willie and Bessie Moore, and Wilbor and Sabbie Nicholson.
Delphine leaves to cherish her memories her mother, Rosetta Nicholson; 2 great aunts, Delois Harris of Gary, IN, and Wanda (Lincoln) Thomas of Earlington, KY; 2 aunts, Clara Jackson of Evansville, IN and Nadine McNeal of Madisonville, KY; a great uncle, Dallas (Carolyn) Scisney of Madisonville, KY; 2 uncles, Donnie Nicholson and Melvin Nicholson of Madisonville, KY and a host of cousins and friends.
