It is with great sadness that the family of David Bernard “Smacksy” McGlown announces that he has gone home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 in Frankfurt, Germany.
David Bernard “Smacksy” McGlown was born in Oxford, Mississippi on December 11, 1951. David attended Central High School (Class of 1969) in Evansville, Indiana. In 1972, Smacksy made the decision to serve his country. He honorably served 4 years in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Ft. Knox KY, Ft. Polk LA, and Nuremberg, Germany. David went on to work 20 plus years in Hanau, Germany at the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, where he retired.
David is preceded in death by his parents, L.C. and Zelma Lee McGlown.
He is survived by his daughter, Diana Birts of Frankfurt, Germany; two son: David Bernhardt Schmidt of Babenhausen, Germany and Juwan Thomas of New Port News, VA.
He will be lovingly remembered by his siblings: Leroy (Patricia) McGlown of Stuttgart, Germany; Ruby Jean McGlown and Antoinitta McGlown of Evansville IN; Anthony (Yvonne) McGlown and Lee (Neeosha) McGlown of San Antonia TX; special brother, Vincent (Gina) Farris; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.
Homegoing services will be held in Babenhausen, Germany and a special memorial service will be held at Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Evansville IN at 5:00pm on Saturday, May 26, 2018. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Zion Missionary Baptist Church for the following auxiliaries: Nurses Guild, Ushers Board, Food Pantry, or Youth Department.
